There was 1 hour and 40 minutes of downtime on Veganism Social.
I pay $180 per month for a managed database from a reputable cloud hosting provider.
At 5:30pm EST, all of our servers, and my home network on a far away continent were unable to resolve the database's host name to an ip address.
When this happened, I immediately received a phone call from Better Stack notifying me of the downtime.
I tried to quickly diagnose the problem. When I realized it was not a quick fix, I redirected our members to our Better Stack downtime page. Then I submitted my terminal logs indicating a DNS problem to the cloud hosting provider.
While I haven't received a proper response to my ticket yet, it appears that whatever DNS problem they were having has been fixed.
I wish we could afford a fail-over or faster support, but it's just not in our server's budget (I receive $5 per month back from our Patreon).
On a good note, we use an outstanding backup service. I was in the process of forking our database before the DNS came back up.
