Lone Wolf & Cub vol. 1 by Kazuo Koike and Goseki Kojima. When I was living in the UK in the mid 90s I found a bunch of Lone Wolf and Cub issues from the First Comics translation. I loved it, but it was woefully incomplete. When Dark Horse rereleased a complete translation, I purchased that, and might have read most or all of it, but mostly remember it being so small as to be uncomfortable reading. Now I've managed to find a digital edition, I have started again with the first volume (of 28...) Lone Wolf and Cub is a classic of samurai manga, centered on an assassin who travels with his 3 year old son to execute his contracts. There's lots of fights and blood, but also lots of Shogun era politics and a ton of cultural details that I find engrossing. This first volume is as compelling as I remembered the story to be, and makes me want to read the whole thing although I don't know if I will stand the distance. I have memories of it being very repetitive after a while. We'll see. So far, so good though. #manga #japan #samurai #classic
