Yesterday a friend of mine told me "it's better to spend energy... with those that are interested." While it sounds simple it's very easy to forget this. It got me to think about why this is true.
Focus Your Energy Where It Matters Most
We have Limited Resources: Time, energy, and capital are finite. We can't afford to dilute our efforts trying to convince those who are indifferent or opposed. Instead, we should channel these resources towards individuals and communities showing curiosity or enthusiasm.
When you engage with an audience that's eager to learn, the educational process is more effective. You'll find more open minds, leading to deeper discussions, better understanding, and ultimately, more advocates.
I have found this to be true time and again this past year. When I am with like minded people I feel encouraged and energized. Yet, I keep finding myself back among the skeptics over and over again.
I need to remember to focus, the winners will be those who invested their time wisely.
