I don't mind following some bot profiles but most bot profiles are setup to post way too often. Like this one below. It's a cat bot profile that's setup to automatically post every hour. That means you would see 24 posts a day. Now imagine following 2 or 3 bot profiles. Your feed would be swamped with these posts.
How can you even keep up with that many posts a day?
Why do they do that? I know why.
The goal is to build your profile with as many followers as possible. So in order to get as many followers as possible you need to post as much as possible.
Let's say you build your profile with 1 million followers. That means you can monetize that profile. How? You could setup a store and sell cat t-shirts and link it on your profile. You would also get requests from companies who will pay you to make 1 post featuring their cat food to your 1 million followers. You could sell the profile to someone and let them monetize it. I see many X and Facebook profiles for sale on a monetization forum that I am a member of.
That's how many of these bot profiles work and their goals.
Most bots profiles on X and Twitter don't actually make as much money as they would of hoped. One of the biggest reason is a lot of these profiles with millions of followers are fake. You can actually buy followers. Dishonest people have bought fake users and then sold the profile to someone who think the followers are legit. There is a whole underground system. I suspect I will see Nostr profiles for sale soon enough.
The system on Nostr is actually way better to make money so I uspect these bot profiles will be able to make a decent amount of money compared to X.
I don't like following bot profiles because it takes away from seeing my followers posts but I have followed some that don't post multiple times an hour.
