Someone once said Democrats would rather run elections as close to 50/50 margins as possible so they don't have to change and they never have the power to do so even when they win.

But I think institutionally, Democrats just want to be a white-centric center-right party. That's where the money is. It's cozy. They don't have to pick fights with powerful interests. And the older, white, wealthy leadership like it that way.

It's easy and it's lazy, and to hell with the rest of us, basically.
