Basic income is coming to Illinois and 23 other US states. Reportedly funded to the tune of $200 million dollars.

It's not universal basic income, and I don't think $600/year (on the low end) is enough for food, shelter and healthcare, but it's at least a concrete step in the direction of taking care of everyone, even if it is a small one.
