Hooo weee the fedihaters have it out for Burning Man today. To me it feels exactly like the same outrage-bait trolling that many of us remember so fondly from birdsite, but now wrapped in climate schadenfreude. It has the same vibe as laughing at average citizens in GOP states who get hit with climate-intensified disasters.
For perspective, I did a quick search and it seems that over 3 million people commute in single occupancy vehicles *every day* in Los Angeles alone.
70,000 people driving to burning man (most of them probably carpooling) once and burning some wood is a carbon emissions rounding error in that calculation.
Also consider how many people spend two weeks every summer driving RVs across the country to go to National Parks. Why is BM different?
My point?
1) Ragebait meanness sucks, here or on birdsite, even if wrapped in climate trolling.
2) Climate activism that misses the *structural and systemic* causes of carbon emissions is futile and misguided, however earnest in intention.
