Liberal in that they're allowed to drive black cars, not necessarily liberal in their politics, I'm afraid. There are a lot of extremely fundie Mennonites in my area. They have seventeen kids, reliably vote Republican, and would probably have sister-wives if they could get away with it. We see them shopping at Sam's Club a lot. You can tell they're Mennonite because the men usually wear straw hats and the women wear extremely conservative dresses and cover their hair with bonnets.
Re: Quakers, there are also two strains of Quaker. There's the hippy liberal ones who are pacifists and do silent meetings and so forth, and then there are the evangelical Quakers who are practically indistinguishable from any other evangelical protestant denomination. The Mennonites are closer to the latter in most cases. Evangelical Quakers are huge in Africa.
