The key idea is to just observe your thoughts, don't label them, don't keep focusing on a thought, just acknowledge it and let it go.
Easier said than done, I know.
But I do think it helps me. When a thought arises, let it go and come back to the breath or focus on what you hear or see, or go back to what you are doing.
