Noting the current flurry of posts on the imminent demise of EN, a quick recommend for my solution. I moved away from EN a while back and now use Obsidian for general notes, and DEVONthink for PDFs, also with notes. DT can import directly from EN and is easily worth the (one off) cost. It's search is fantastic and the pro acct gives OCR and other bonuses. I use local sync for Obsidian across 3 OS, win, mac and android, using Syncthing.
