"Firefighters are not only at risk of death or injury during fires, but also face a hidden hazard of occupational cancer. The chemicals and materials released during fires, as well as the gear they wear, can increase their risk of cancer diagnosis and death. The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) has urged members to limit their exposure to these chemicals and has sued the National Fire Protection Association for ignoring scientific evidence and downplaying the risks of PFAS. Cities and states need to take action to provide safer gear and support for firefighters."
