I don't thing naturalised is the right term. Desensitized is more towards what is really happening. There is a lot of the 'not my child, not my problem' mentality going on, but I don't think that is it.
I mentioned this in one of my own posts earlier. It is untreated mental illness that is driving a bunch of different angles. From the shooters being untreated all the way up to elected leaders being untreated.
When someone denies they need it and goes about life without it, they become (depending on the type and depth of the illness) easier to manipulate. Same for those who know they are sick and can't afford healthcare. I speak from experience - denial was my driver until one day someone I respected pulled me aside and asked me a few questions that most likely saved my life.
This country is doomed if all of the voters with some level of sanity or are actively under treatment don't rise up and actually vote for the candidate that has already beat Trump once.
