It’s an acronym that basically translates to “The Islamic Resistance Movement” and in some Arabic dialects can mean “zeal”. However, in certain sections of the media, they erroneously relate it to the Hebrew word “chamas” which means violence or injustice/cruelty. That’s perhaps what you’ve read?
