Johto itself is... its designed well enough tbh, but they really didnt make a story in any way, G1 left stuff to the imagination, but very much told you about how one side of the pokemon world was cute and innocent and the other side was dark and pretty fucked up.
Gen2 meta is... whatever. Its a huge downgrade, but stadium 2 was good enough.
