This is my Fermi paradox solution. Basically we are like the kid who can't find their favorite pencil and they say "I've looked EVERYWHERE for it! it's gone!" and they've looked in like four places tops three of them were the same place three times in a row.
We routinely have papers published based on data collected years ago. We don't even look at all the data we create by looking.
