The IMDB reviews for The Idol were so bad (4.7 and falling) that I just had to watch it.
There was some real potential here and many good moments. I was often entranced with the atmosphere of the production.
Depp is a hard sell as a Britney type. Her aristocratic supermodel type look is just not right for the role. She can act but doesn't seem like an actual pop star.
Many characters suddenly change in episode 4 which felt forced and unreal.
There is one girl, Chloe, who is genuinely talented but Izzac (sp?) is no Prince (lol) and the whole band of gypsy artist kids is pretty lame.
The ending is just awful. There is this weak-ass twist that just absolutely fails.
I'd say it deserves a 6, maybe 6.4.
