Was gifted an expensive kettle last year but this morning it died. Well out of warranty and no apparent way to fix it.

Decided to salvage the LEDs to show it was on and the 3 core mains cable to the base. Cut through said cable, forgetting it was plugged in.

There was a pop, flash and an alarmingly pleasant smell as the power went out. Thank Zarquon for British consumer boards!
