I’ve seen brand names handled several ways — most commonly, just mentioned normally in the text.
One author — brand names used normally, but listed and acknowledged at the beginning of the book as if a lawyer had advised them to be extra cautious
Sometimes, especially if used negatively — completely made-up
The Rocky Flintstone Belinda Blinks series — ever so slightly altered so it’s very obvious which brand name is meant, to hilarious effect.
