That isn't anything new. Apple made it first possible with Apple Bootcamp, years ago. I think Windows 7 was the 1st copy you could install on an Apple.
Personally, I wouldn't do that, since if I paid 2,500+ for a decent Apple, I'd want to use that macOS to the fullest. However, once they stopped supporting my Apple, as Apple does far quicker than I think anyone should be comfortable with, then I'd wipe it and install whatever.
