This argument makes logical sense - vote for whoever is the best candidate even if both are shit. However if you think the entire system is corrupted, merely focusing who will win the next election might not be effective. There is research that shows the power of not voting. The same logic that applies to boycotting a bad business can be applied to dealing with a corrupt and violent government. Merely voting for the one who may kill and maim fewer people, ensures that the status quo is maintained.
