yeah, it's a bit strange sn't it. Much of it must be agents placing information with sources that then get aggregated by the usual suspects. The whole Tammy Abraham story had a strong whiff of that about it. The clubs can be as nom-leaky as they like, but can't do much about the agents, who make a bigger commission if the player sells for more. It seems like a pretty dirty business.
