I think the idea of a public cryptographic ledger might (or might not) prove useful, but I don't see why a pure book entry on such a ledger should be valued. Instead the usefulness will come from tracking something real IMO
I view Bitcoin as an attempt to impose scarcity and some semblance of fairness onto fiat without changing the fundamental nothingness that underlies fiat
