some years back someone tried to migrate a ~15 person slack community to E2EE Riot on Matrix and the whole process was so convoluted and the end result so sparse that it put me off Matrix for the entire time since

we didn’t *need* E2EE & I’ve come to understand that’s what made the whole thing so unbearable,

but this is indicative of a similar pattern I’ve noticed with a lot of “intros” to various technologies: overcomplicating the initial stuff so horribly it puts people off it entirely
