A potentially interesting fight is being set up between oil companies and insurance companies as the latter (and taxpayers and premium paying customers) have been absorbing the costs of climate change so oil companies can maintain massive profitability. But insurance companies are increasingly exiting high risk areas as unsustainable, a problem that will only grow.
As someone else said, your conservative relatives may not believe in climate change but their insurance company certainly does.
