Ah yes, one of my friends had Sympatico back in the day. It was offered through BCTel (and later, TELUS - though after TELUS acquired BCTel, they downplayed the Sympatico/dial-up offering in favour of their high-speed ADSL service which used different branding)
But here in Victoria, they were never as popular as our local ISP - Island Net - which had stronger word-of-mouth marketing and partnerships with the local computer user groups (http://web.archive.org/web/19961107120422/http://www2.islandnet.com/)
