Northanger Abbey starts with a hilarious parody of the gothic novel (then I think Austen realises she can’t sustain that level of parody for a whole book, and heads off in another direction).
Mansfield Park is perhaps the least approachable because Fanny and Edmund are both a bit wet, but if you approach it not as a romance, but as a study of a very, very shy woman in a horribly patriarchal culture, I think it becomes a more interesting read (and Fanny holding the dodgy geezer at bay is a heroic piece of boundary maintenance).
