The bottom line is that people who voted for those ghost candidates (not that I have much sympathy) were defrauded out of their vote by whoever put in the paperwork. But it also raises the question of how easy it is for a non-eligible person (eg someone from America or Europe’s far right) to get on the ballot. The instructions to returning officers look positively quaint. Politics can’t rely on ‘good chaps’ any more these days.
