I remember now. I was doing some solidarity work with Mexican groups in the 90s and a number of times, from very different groups, Marxist, anarcho, leftists to liberals would openly argue against solidarity work because the Mexican groups were peasants and not industrial workers.
So, their struggles weren't relavent. Sometimes ideology can make people ignore what's in front of their nose. I like that phrase about people losing their living connection to struggle.
