Generally speaking,

I think Bitcoiners are Conservative types, while Monero people are more Libertarian/Anarchist.

This perspective explains a lot about differences in attitude.

The Monero community has no tolerance for government regulations, banking, and surveillance.

This explains the darknet market adoption of Monero.

I think Bitcoin used to be Anarchistic. It was a cypherpunk movement.

But it has shifted into a different form, and the "og" types have either adopted a more compliant attitude, or moved to Monero, BCH (other reasons), etc.

People who value freedom and sovereignty will use the tools that serve that resist tyranny.

Bitcoin was an incredible project, but it has overpromised and underdelivered (not by Satoshi, but by the toxic Maximalist crowd). It's still a good tool.

However..

Monero is objectively the best (current) monetary tool if you care about cypherpunk values.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Monero has the highest rate of self custody of any coin, especially since it's been delisted virtually everywhere. But of course, we can't track that!
