Just got my #Fairphone5
The last time I bought a #SmartPhone was almost 8 years ago, and the #tech has improved quite a lot in that time. As for the #Fairphone 5 itself:
Touch screen is high-def, very responsive, and much, much easier to use with screen keyboards than my older smartphone. I can see myself actually writing code on this, something I have never even considered trying to do on a touch screen before.
Build quality is much, much nicer than it looks in pictures, to me it feels as nice as an iPhone.
It is a bit heavy, but not much worse than my previous phone, and has a larger screen.
Fairly easy to #DeGoogle — I just decline all prompts for Google log-ins, and install #FDroid apps to replace the default Google apps.
Boot loader can be unlocked, and I will probably install #LineageOS , but the default Android 13 install is already quite good, and I might try updating to Android 14 first.
Linus Tech Tips was not lying about the notification settings being too damn loud.
After using my old phone for 8 years, I am surprised how fast this phone is now. Everything about it just works better. I suppose this would have been true for just about any phone I could buy, but I can’t see myself wanting for better tech specs. I really hope this one lasts me 10 years or more, I bought it specifically because it is the most repairable phone I was able to find anywhere.
First impression after using it for a day: I could not be more pleased, it has exceeded all of my expectations, 10/10 would recommend.
