"LANGUAGE AND THE IMPORTANCE OF SOFT POWER"
"It's quite interesting seeing people talk about the 'rise of china' with j-35s, deepseek and its trade network being the topics of interest. Now that the america seems to be pursuing its isolationism with its cuts to USAID, its concessions to russia etc. Yet what seems to be missing in the discussion of this is language and the importance of it. Language is used as a means of communication especially in diplomacy and transactions. Yet despite the fact that china engages in large number of trades and it engages in diplomacy with multiple countries, very few people are interested in learning mandarin. In fact even the chinese army talks to the filpino army in broken english. Now some say english is now considered as the default language and they say mandarin cannot compete with that yet Japan which has faced economic decline, a population decrease and has multiple american military bases has more people interested in learning japanese which is associated with the global interest in the anime industry."
