Thank you for sharing your story, it is beautiful. I was born with an amblyopia, means my right eye is physically healthy but my brain just ignores the nerve input. I can "see" with the eye but I can't describe how I "can't see" with it. I was 35 when suddenly 3D TVs appeared and were hyped. I remember watching a movie with shutter glasses and... it didn't look any special to me. That was when I realized that I only see in 2D and that other people see in 3D but I have no concept what 3D is, similarly to your microtia's mono hearing. That's where I get it how you felt when your hearing aid finally worked and the world changed.
If someone figures out how to fix my brain in the future, I'll probably also cry of happiness for just being able to watch and "see" stuff. 🥰
