Compare that to meteorologists. They actually calculate the expected deviations of their models before writing their code. Down to phase shifts.

That was quite a cultural shock when I as "just go at it" physics PhD student supported master students with theoretical meteorology.

I’m sure I spent that semester reading more theory than the students did. Just to be able to answer the expected questions.

And then some more every time I had to say “I’ll answer that next time”.
