For how quick the mom reacted to the gunshot, there is no way she heard the gun before smelling the weed and given the old timey set up of the room, a weed stink would be a big problem and he "in theory" should of gotten his ass kicked by then. but no, it's the "gun shot" that's she conveniently hears and decides to step in
