Sarah Roberts, prof whose work in content mod is widely cited, calls it the "deindustrialization" of FB: "There’s not a lot of financial gain to be had in propping up FB with new stuff, but it’s not like it disappears or its footprint shrinks. It just gets filled with scams. And then poor content moderation begets scammers begets this useless crap content, AI-generated stuff, uncanny valley stuff that people don’t enjoy and it just gets worse and worse.”
