You kind of DO have to build an audience for your writing because that's the path you've chosen as an indie publisher! (And I'm personally grateful that you have!) And so you DO need to find where the audiences and engage them there.
I have the luxury of getting a regular paycheck that is completely disconnected from any audiences - or lack thereof - on social media. So I have the ability to make different choices than you.
