it gets a bit unwieldy once you have to deal with weird upstreams (e.g. even minor versions denote stable, uneven pre-releases, some numbers over 80 in minor version denote pre-releases, other weird stuff).
I recommend excluding the pre-releaes separately and not as part of a from and to pattern though.
