I'm reminded of when The Mists of Avalon was published. I was in high school and I bought it and it was almost 900 pages. I loved Morgaine and hated Gwenhyfar so much. I lived and breathed reading that book. That's really when I realized you could fall into a drunken-like stupor, a reading trance.
A few years later, when I broke up with my first big college love, I reread it, to try and transport myself away from sad college girl to the magical observer of Arthurian legend.
