I'd expect that what happens next is the feds start cutting grants to states and localities, so then the local chair-warmers have to choose between losing their jobs and raising taxes. Localities are predominantly funded by property taxes, and raising property taxes will push the boomers out of their mansions and unfuck the housing market, while also putting them at odds with the local democrat political machines.
