* baudot CITTY-2 (5bit plus 2x 5bit-switchchar per number) = 500chars + 50 switches = 344 byte => 32%
* baudot 6bit (i.e. 1 bit for charset switch) = 375 byte => 25%
* ASCII 7bit = 438 byte => 12%
* UTF-8 8bit = 500 byte => 0%
For short QSOs 6bit (many switches) is better. Are 25% worth the conversion hassle? Maybe @ max 1200bit/s (for HF)?
