“Conan the Buccaneer”, published in 1971, is a novel co-written by Lin Carter and L. Sprague de Camp. The artwork by the Extraordinary Frank Frazetta. A bit beat up as all of mine are due the the many read-through a I’ve done over the course of its life. It follows Robert E. Howard's famous barbarian, Conan, in his early 30s during his time as a buccaneer, a seafaring pirate and adventurer. In this story, Conan commands a pirate ship and embarks on a dangerous mission to retrieve a mystical jewel known as the Eye of the Lotus.
Conan's encounters include deadly rivals, mysterious cults, and fierce battles on land and sea. The book reflects Carter and de Camp's collaborative expansion of Howard’s original Conan stories, aiming to stay true to the character's heroic yet savage nature. Though not written by Howard himself, “Conan the Buccaneer” adds depth to the lore of Conan's adventurous life.
