When I was at Microsoft, I was frequently told that we couldnt fix things in Windows because Windows had very strong binary compatibility guarantees. Meanwhile, I was running old Windows programs in WINE on my Mac with better success than running them on a newer Windows version.
Your new system doesn’t need to run all of your old code, it just needs to run a compatibility layer that can run your old code.
