those of us on the ground come at these problems in hiring practices from a perspective that prioritizes getting work done because that work is socially useful. I think these problems reflect the priorities of executives and middle management, because they're the people with the power to accept or reform these practices, and I think that their priorities simply have more to do with the exercise and accumulation of power than getting useful work done; this is the problem with capitalism writ large
