Erratic, the Art of Roaming by Les Doigts de l'Homme. I've been a fan of Les Doigts de l'Homme ever since I first heard their 2008 Les Doigts dans la Prise, an album that blew up Gipsy Jazz with humour and virtuosity. Since then, I've gone back to their earlier albums and followed their more recent releases. I was particularly taken by the 2017 Le Coeur des Vivants, in which they moved away from their gipsy roots to embrace a slightly more intellectual jazz but still with that near insane virtuosity put to really good use. A long winded way of saying I awaited Erratic, a double album featuring acoustic and electric tunes, with baited breath. Maybe a bit too much. Don't get me wrong, Erratic is lovely and makes for a very pleasant listening, but after a good number of listens, I struggle a bit to find tunes that stand out. In particular, the electric side is (in my humble opinion) too much like the acoustic side. I was expecting more contrast, and more fireworks on the electric side. It's probably one of those albums that is a bit too subtle for me to immediately pick up on the most interesting tracks. It'll need a few more listens for me to really get into it, I think. #music #jazz #guitar #instrumental
