Look, for example, at images of Trump waved around by his followers - Trump as a muscled Rambo like figure, as a superhero etc. These are nothing like the actual man. And we live in an age when people can easily fact check. Yet they still prefer their fantasies.

I believe the Jesus person who started all this perhaps by expressing some novel ideas about Judiasm, received similar treatment as stories about him got around, were embroidered and repeated. People made him into what they wanted him to be.
