Woke up to find an AirNow alert that air quality index (AQI) in our metro Detroit area was 350, just before midnight last night.

Never saw AQI reported so high for our area.

Local meteorologist says it's fireworks smoke trapping low level air at the surface due to an inversion.

Our area has some of the worst air quality in the US this morning.

Current AirNow AQI: 220. Nearby PurpleAir report: 153.
