Email is broken is so many ways. servers intentionally ignoring 400 temporary errors, and treating them as 500 errors. 500 errors not being raised to the user because it's some automated system that's fire and forget. Yet, it's works the best since it's a common protocol that almost everyone implements, instead of the mess that is all the other communications protocols.
