I first heard the idea a while back, when they were initially experimenting with the same van der waals layer separation stuff they use in monolayer graphene sheet production, but forgot the material existed until today when I was searching to see if germanium arsenide had gotten anywhere (it has interesting applications for photodiodes) and found a paper from last year that covers both.
