The truth nobody wants to admit is that peaceful protests worked because back then people still had a conscience, and corporations did not want to offend their customers. And some companies did also have a conscious, via board members and stock holders who did.
But today's oligarchs have none. They are sociopaths who only care about having more money than anyone could reasonably spend in 100 lifetimes.
In the not too recent past shame worked. Now it doesn't.
