11. If you and your MC swapped places for a day, who would have an easier time adjusting?
That’s a tough question to answer, when you really think about it. My story has a medieval-style fantasy setting, with no electricity or gunpowder or the like.
The glib answer is “Me, of course, because we’re so advanced in modern society it’d be easy for us to live in medieval times.”
The reality is likely different. What we think we know about daily life in such times is likely woefully short of the reality. Adjusting to a world without running water, or flush toilets, or refrigeration, or many of the other conveniences of modern life could be quite challenging. And even just little things like how to get a drink of water that’s not going to give you dysentery or cholera…
Conversely, someone from a medieval type society would be absolutely stunned at what we have available to us ‘on tap’, but I’m sure it’d take them all of three seconds to work out how to get a drink of water from a tap.
So there’s a distinct possibility that, as mind-blowing as the experience would be, someone from a medieval society might find the swap easier than someone from the modern day.
And that’s without even considering the withdrawal symptoms from being without social media for a whole day! 😉
